Introduction!

Hello everyone! My name is Mariah, and this is currently my last class at LaGuardia before transferring to city tech to get a bachelors focusing on radiology/ medical imaging. Laguardia wasn’t my first choice as a school to attend, but thankfully I did end up attending because it has allowed me to actually discover a career path I see myself doing and also allowing me to save money and earn my degrees. The most interesting class I probably took was philosophy it is a hard class that requires you to think a lot but it helps with a lot of basic skills like thinking from other points of view, asking questions, and having to be able to defend your views with reasoning. My hobbies include the basics of being around my family and friends, shopping, and constantly playing around with makeup. Music plays a very big role in my everyday life I’m probably always having some music playing in the background when I’m cleaning or even studying. It really helps to get me focus, to calm me down or cheer me up, or even when I’m bored I play music for entertainment. I wouldn’t say I have a particular genre of music to listen to it really just depends if it catches the attention of my ears.

Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Reshma Soodeen. I am in my last semester at LaGuardia and this is actually my last class. I came to LaGuardia to get back on track to obtaining my degree in Biochemistry. I took a few years off from college and it has been a struggle to get back into school to finish but now I am on my way to getting my Bachelor’s degree. Hopefully I will be transferring to Hunter College in the fall. I am excited to see how this course broadens my knowledge. Listening to music has always put me in a better mood or relaxes me. I like listening to a variety of genres like alternative rock, pop, country, soca, reggae, jazz, classical, pretty much anything that sounds good to me. Throughout the day I am always humming or singing a song that has been stuck in my head. So music is with me all day long.

Introduction: Hi everyone!-Lyza Cotrich

What brought me to LaGuardia was doing the early college program that my high school offered. I started taking college classes at 15 while also taking high school classes. I am actually 18 years old now and I am graduating high school tomorrow (June 22). I am just finishing up the last few classes I have now for college. I am taking this class now and two more classes in fall then I am finished. Being a Liberal Arts: Social Sciences and Humanities major I have learned a lot through all the classes I took. It gave me a chance to see the different types of things that I might want to consider studying in the future. Some of my hobbies are singing, writing, and playing basketball. Something that interests me especially for my future is Law. I want to become part of Law Enforcement. This has been my interest since I was 14 years old and I joined the NYPD explorers at age 15 and I am currently still an NYPD explorer. I love music so much I listen to a lot of different genres like: country music, alternative rock, R&B, pop, blues, Soul. I love all different types of music . My relationship with music is very big. I used to play the French Horn when I was younger and I play the Piano. I haven’t played my piano in a little while but I am going to start playing again. I also love to sing . I always had a dream of becoming a singer. I can say there is not a day in my life where I do not listen to music.

Introduction

Hello, everyone, my name is Noel Febres Gonzalez. As all of us this class means the end of my education at LaGuardia. My concentration of Liberal Arts is Math and Science. I started in the nursing program at LaGuardia but I finished at other school. I’m a Practical Nurse planning to become a Register Nurse in the next couple years. My favorites classes are biology and psychology. I gained new and interesting information.

Before I become a nurse I used to work in restaurants, I had worked in different restaurants styles from Chinese, American BBQ and Latino cuisines. While working in these restaurants I was constantly listening to the music playlist and I diversified my music genre and apricated music not from generation like David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, The Rollins Stones and 70’s American pop music. I also enjoy listening to classical music to study or relax, I tune WQXR classical radio station where I learn about classical music. My music preference depends on the situation of the moment, when I’m driving, I listen to La Mega Latin station to catch up with the current trends in the Latin pop scene or when I’m having dinner with my wife I prefer to listen to Miles Davis or Jazz in general. My daughter (age 4) and I, have “princess dances sections” where we dance and listen to The Nutcracker playlist and “princess music”. I enjoy music every moment and I hope to expand my knowledge and experience about music with this class.

Introduction Post – Joselyne Ponce

Hi everyone!

My name is Joselyne Ponce and this is my last class at LaGuardia Community College. I decided to attend LaGuardia Community College for two main reasons: it was affordable and it was near my neighborhood. I can honestly say that I’ve truly enjoyed my experience at LaGuardia. The school has motivated me to continue with my academic career and has provided me with so many resources. I finally graduated and will be transferring to Columbia University this Fall. I actually took a course with Professor Fess during my first semester at LaGuardia, I thought it was fitting to end my time here with another one of his classes. Sort of like a “full circle” moment.

Some of my hobbies are going on walks and reading. I like walking around my neighborhood or the city, there’s always something new to explore. I also love diving into a good book and zoning out for hours. As far as music, I like to think that my taste is very versatile. It really depends on my mood and how I want to feel in that moment. I have all types of music on my spotify playlists. It can vary from salsa, rap, reggaeton, house, lo-fi, techno etc. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t listen to music, it is definitely vital to my life. My favorite thing to do is to blast music out of all the Alexa’s in my apartment and turning it into a mini club.

Introduction Post – Becky Huang

Hello, my name is Becky. I enrolled in LaGuardia to be a Deaf Studies major. I enjoyed all of my classes pertaining to my major because I love learning about languages and their connected cultures. My most memorable classes were Introduction to Bilingualism and Sociology of American Deaf Communities because of all that I was able to learn during them.

I enjoy reading, playing games, and eating. I believe that it’s important to enjoy every meal because the amount of food that can be eaten in a lifetime is limited. In the past year, one of my favorite places for bubble tea closed permanently. It taught me that my opportunities to eat at different restaurants can be suddenly limited as well. You never know when misfortune may occur or when a chef decides to retire. Because of this, I try to order takeout every once in a while, both to support the restaurant and to experience different foods.

I like listening to music from different languages and time periods, for example Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, English, and Japanese music. I tend to listen to the same artists because if I liked listening to a number of their songs, then I’m likely to enjoy future songs by that same artist. Some artists and groups I like listening to are Hua Chenyu, Mamamoo, Lee Hi, Vera Lynn, and Aimer.

Annotation Assignment

What are annotations?

When you annotate a text, you write notes, comments, and questions, usually in the margins. These can be helpful when you are trying to do things like make connections between a group of readings and remember and mark interesting or confusing passages that you may want to revisit, especially when you want to write papers or study for tests.

Hypothes.is

Hypothes.is is a digital annotation platform that allows you to annotate anything on the web. It also allows you to make these annotations socially: you can see annotations other readers are making and other readers can see what you are annotating. We will be using this platform to collectively–as a class–annotate material we will read.

Preliminary tasks

First, be sure to watch the video guide about using hypothes.is

Second, register for a hypothes.is account.

Third, join our class annotation group.

Once you have completed these tasks you will be able to make annotations.

Assignment

I would like you to annotate course readings-before the due dates marked on the syllabus with questions, comments, and observations that pertain to the prompt I leave at the top of the page of each reading.

For the dates marked on the syllabus, each of you should post at least three thoughtful, substantive annotations that respond to my prompt.

Ground rules:

  1. As stated above, each annotation should answer the prompt
  2. Each person should make at least three substantial annotations per text.
  3. Multimedia: Try to incorporate images, links, and videos into your annotations. Additionally, post primary or archival material from the Web if you come across it.

Grade:

The aggregate value of annotations will make up 15% of your overall grade. There will be fuve annotation checks during the semester; the grade for each will reflect a combination of several of your annotations.

Andy Zhang Introduction

Hello, my name is Andy and this is my last semester here at LaGuardia. I have to say I find almost all courses I’ve took interesting in one way or another. Bring a film and tv major, the core classes definitely satisfies my curiosity the most. Other than movies, I do also enjoy racket sports tennis and badminton and a bit of table tennis. I try my best to listen to all types of music. I know we all have our favorites, but I don’t like dismissing a certain genre just because I didn’t connect with it right away. I am always looking for music that have the right amount of funk. To me a piece of music sounds good when it’s bringing something new but still feels familiar. That sensation when it hits a part of your brain thats never been connected before is amazing.

Intro

Hello I am Javier Nava and I am 19 years old. I am of Mexican descent but was born here in the United states. I am an introverted fellow and would rather stay at home relaxing than going out. My major is liberal arts Math and Science and this is my last semester here at LaGuardia. I enrolled in LaGuardia to test the waters and see what I wanted to pursue as a career. Some of my favorite classes I took were SCB 201 and SCN 240. Ever since I was a kid I was always fascinated by the idea of science and how we try to understand the working of the universe.

Some personal things about me is that I love watching futbol, my favorite team being Fc Barcelona. I idolize Leo Messi and have been a massive supporter ever since I was in the 4th grade, I even wrote a poem about him for some project back in elementary. It’s one of my dreams to see him in action in the camp nou someday, and witness his futbol magic. I love watching/reading anime/manga. I have watched roughly 408 different anime’s and it’s my goal this year to reach 450 if I can. Sometime in the future, my friends and I hope to experience the Japanese culture with our very eyes in Japan.

In terms of music I usually listen to any type if it’s catchy. My playlist mostly  consists of  Japanese, pop rock, or ost.  Despite being Hispanic I don’t  listen to any Spanish music, I guess from all the parties I’ve attended blasting the same music time and time again haha. I hope to gain a new perspective on the topic of music this semester and wish the best for everyone.
